The Athol/Orange River Rat Race Committee, in conjunction with Athol/Orange town officials announced Tuesday, March 17, 2020 that the 2020 Athol/Orange River Rat Race will be postponed until further notice in order to protect paddlers, spectators, vendors, and volunteers from COVID-19.
The committee is working to collaborate with town and safety officials, as well as the Army Corps of Engineers to determine a future date to reschedule the race once the threat of COVID-19 has subsided. Race officials are committed to keeping the race at the highest quality and with the best support possible and will announce a date as soon as all safety, town, and race officials agree on a date.
Paddlers who have already submitted their fees through the website may request a full refund. Any teams who have already paid may apply the fee to the rescheduled event instead of requesting a refund. This will be done automatically if the team does not contact the Athol Lion's Club. If the race is unable to run for any reason in 2020, teams may apply the fee to the 2021 race.
The Athol/Orange River Rat Race Committee would like to thank the sponsors, volunteers, first responders, town officials, spectators, and paddlers for their understanding of this decision and their continued support in making this event successful for more than 50 years.
